Professional Development
- Professional Development is much more than sitting and listening to someone speak on a topic. Strong PD inspires the learner to think about something different and then do something differently. After the initial training, it is important to have a follow-up plan for how the information will be put into action. As a 32-year veteran in public schools, I know staff time is very valuable and that any training needs to have information that they can take back to the classroom the next day.

Assistive Technology Team Support
- Assistive Technology (AT) Consideration is required as a part of any IEP. Many times IEP teams simply check the box saying AT was considered but don’t know what that really means or how to do it. This support can include helping your district or Coop establish an Assistive Technology structure including guidelines for considering AT, determining what AT structure is best for your organization, training staff on the difference between AT consideration and AT evaluation, and how to keep it all going from year to year. This framework will be focused on the Quality Indicators in Assistive Technology.
Augmentative Alternative Communication Evaluation
- Evaluation in the area of Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) with consideration for how the device will be used in the customary setting of a school district, home, or other living situation. Evaluation will include facilitation using the SETT (Student Environment Task Tool by Joy Zabala) framework, observation of the individual, trial with the team-selected device, written report, data forms for the team to use to take data after the initial trial, and a one-hour virtual training with the team. Follow-up coaching is available by request.
Multi-Service Option
- Your organization may need a multi-service option by opting to customize your training or service needs throughout the school year. Imagine knowing that you have a veteran educator at your fingertips for 10, 20, or 30 days in a school year to help your team in the areas of AAC, AT, DLM alternate assessment, professional development, or coaching staff. The Multi-Service Option will be customized to meet the needs of your agency.
Consultation
- Maybe you know you need help but are not sure what help you need. Consultation is a great option in these times. Paige will come in and meet with your team, discuss the areas of need, and help you come up with a plan for your organization to follow. If after consultation you feel you need additional support from BEST, I will work with you to determine how to support you in meeting those needs.
